There is an inherent serenity and beauty that India’s villages hold. A pace of life that can almost seem alien to the hasty lives that most city-dwellers live, villages in South India represent pauses, nuance, and a balmy experience where a peaceful existence between man and nature transpires.

In capturing the beauty of India’s countryside, a photoseries produced by photographer Vaffara and stylist Gousia Galib Khan encapsulates the freedom, beauty, and liberation of South Indian villages.

Homespun follows a day in the lives of three women embracing their joy and emotions of being free in a village. Set against the lush green background of the South Indian town of Thrissur, the series captures the whole spectrum of emotion, playfulness, and the unstaged beauty offered by India’s countryside.

The outfits which feature bold Indian prints styled with local Indian elements such as flowers, jewellery, and more complement the landscape of the series all the more.

“I am a vintage soul who gets inspiration from other people’s lives and stories of my grandmother. I strongly believe in and admire the culture and traditions of South India. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, may fashion brings us all together.”
