When we started out with the 1st edition of the festival in 2018, it was perhaps one of the hardest challenges to introduce what a ‘sneaker and street culture festival’ was. In our echo chambers we seemingly didn’t realize that being a new format of a festival with no precedent in the country, and like all things that hoped to break away from the norm; the learning curve would be steep.
Through many long days (and sleepless nights), not devoid of trepidation, we learned and adapted. And eventually Delhi embraced us in the most beautiful way. That moment is forever imprinted - thank you for that memory.
In 2020, we wanted to return to our home city - Mumbai. It was our love letter to the chaotic dynamo of a city that inspires us and fuels our creativity. However, the world and life at large had other ideas for us all.
Three weeks prior to the festival we pulled the plug owing to COVID-19.
If the last three years have taught us anything, it’s the power of community, love, and how the only thing that truly matters is having each other. And we hope to build and relive that feeling once again with #HGStreet2023.
IT'S TIME TO EVOLVE
While, the roots and cultural origins are important - to learn about those who paved the way for us going against the grain; breaking away from society’s shackles of “this is the only way it’s done,” ideas and culture should have no gatekeepers - it should be ever evolving, embracing, and democratic.
We are at a significant time of transformation. Each generation is armed with a fearless voice and a unique cultural point of view - we just need to lean in.
Note: The second edition was supposed to take place in March 2020 but we had to pull the plug due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
