‘Dilbar’: Dizlaw’s New EP Is The Soundtrack To Every Love Story That Never Was

Disha Bijolia

A trigger warning if you're still recovering from a break up — Navi Mumbai artist Dizlaw’s latest EP, 'Dilbar', will pull you through a maze of memories, heartaches, and quiet revelations.

Dizlaw is known for his introspective lyricism and genre-blurring compositions. He has a way of turning raw feeling into melody, and wrapping vulnerability in smooth production. His music thrives on contrasts — poetic yet relatable, melancholic yet liberating. With Dilbar, he gives his signature storytelling a fresh dimension, through an evocative mix of RnB, indie pop, and classic influences. Each track on the EP is a chapter in an emotional narrative; exploring love, loss, and closure.

The prologue, 'Jaani', is the sound of remembering something you wish you could forget. The reverb-soaked vocals feel like whispers from the past, floating just out of reach. The hypnotic groove wraps around you, dragging you into a hazy dream of nostalgia and maybe regret (depending on your past relationships). Dizlaw doesn’t waste time easing you in; he throws you straight into the deep end through this dark indie pop, setting the emotional tone for what’s to come.

If heartbreak had a theme song, it would sound a lot like Dilbar. The title track is a cinematic, slow-burning RnB confession wrapped in an unusual ¾ time signature. The electric guitar in the intro of 'Khayaal' hooks you in and keeps you on your toes with its play on tempo and shifts between full-time and half-time beats. Like the chaotic push and pull of a complicated love story, this track is constantly changing, mirroring the uncertainty of relationships.

'Jaata Waqt' is a curveball thattakes the sorrow of loss and dresses it up in an upbeat, almost travel-friendly pop groove. The production is light, breezy even, but the lyrics tell a different story. A paradox of emotions, this track is Dizlaw’s the contradictory and non-linear ways that moving on really happens. But one said does it's like a weight has been lifted. This bittersweet freedom, as heard in 'Azaad', closes out the EP in a reflective farewell to an emotionally loaded journey.

And there you have it; how to get over someone — a 5-track journey. No benders and rebounds necessary, just trudging through heartbreak with some soulful, earnest music to get you across.
