Non-Linear Is A Homegrown Creative Practice Intersecting Art, Technology, and Design

Homegrown Team

A creative practice that intersects the fields of art, technology, and design, Non-Linear has carved out a niche for itself by focussing on creating interactive and immersive projects that engage their audiences and push the envelope of what's possible through interactive spatial experiences. We spoke to its founder, Dennis Fabian Peter, who told us a little bit more about Non-Linear's vision for the future of computational design and generative art.

Tell us a little about this project.

I've always found the motion of leaves in the rain fascinating. The idea for this piece was to capture this springy motion and use the captured data to play musical sounds. This video was built as a prototype for an idea that I envision at a much larger scale.

Describe your creative process and the purpose with which you create.

The desire for constant experimentation is essential for the practice. The beauty of experimenting with technology/code and art is that the process takes you on a journey of multiple divergencies. The unmatched joy in following these divergencies from one happy accident to another is what fundamentally drives Non-Linear.

What are some of your biggest inspirations and influences over the course of your artistic career so far?

The emergent properties of nature, hacker culture, analog sound synthesis, generative art, and brutalist architecture. In terms of individuals - Brian Eno, Ryoji Ikeda, 404.zero , Kevin McGloughlin, Weirdcore, and Nonotak

What are some things you learned while putting this project together?

Mostly a lot of technical details regarding electronics (which is probably a little unnecesary to explain over here). This project was mostly just a self initiated prototype for an idea that I would like to develop to a larger scale in the future.

Who are some artists who are currently on your radar?

Ksawery Kirklewski , Pablo Valbuena, Joanie Lemercier, Aniruddh Mehta(Big Fat Minimalist), Aaron Myles Pereira, Sourya Sen, Sajid Wajid Sheikh, and Nikunj Patel (Moebius).

Tell us about a project you wish you were a part of.

The Mutek Festival.
