This Goan Bartender Collective Is Empowering Women & Members Of The LGBTQIA Community

Samyukhtha Sunil

There’s nothing that a good cocktail cannot fix and drinks that are handmade with love and precision can make for a perfect finish to a long day or week. Using the skill of bartending as a uniting factor, Goa-based bartender, Fay has initiated a one-of-a-kind community that caters to pass on the tricks of the trade to women and people belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community.

‘Mr. Bartender & The Crew’ is a 12-year-old passion project started by Fay, a mixologist and LGBTQIA rights advocate who discovered their passion for bartending during their stint in Goa back in 2010. Having worked with prominent bars in the state and outside, they decided to build a community that is diverse, inclusive, and at the same time, creative with its endeavours. Over time, the founding team grew into a family of four who actively endorse, train and proliferate their collective vision for the brand.

Presently, the collective caters to bars and branded gigs across the country while being active representatives and spokespeople of their community. Mr. Bartender’s vision is to not just provide rehabilitation to women and members of the LGBTQIA community but to also empower and encourage their financial independence while initiating them to safe, inclusive spaces where gender, social status and the likes are not the deciding factors for one’s professional abilities.
