Visit A Mumbai Analog Print Exhibition Examining Our Relationship With Memories

Gulbahaar Kaur

The unmatched beauty of an analog print is etched so deeply into our nostalgic hearts that yearn for that simplicity in this day and age. These physical copies are treasures from another period that bind family members and remain preserved in our albums. Even though our digital prints are emblematic of the current zeitgeist, analog photographs somehow still overpower their quality and have a tendency to freeze a moment in time.

Harkat Studios

The entire process of creating this print from scratch is a journey in itself and a recent workshop at Harkat Studios facilitated an exploration and re-looking at archives of images, memories, light & time. They helped for an in-depth understanding of alternative printmaking processes through old negatives and film transparencies.

During the six day workshop conducted by Urna Sinha and Shahrukh Anklesaria, objects from the archive were examined, in order to accumulate annotations of a distant time. This deep study of image making practices has led to an exhibition that is a culmination of all that participants explored and created, thoughtfully put together through a new lens.

Carefully examining our relationship with memories and other objects that bond us with them through space and time. These analog prints are fresh out of the Harkat lab however hold onto a similar nostalgia and sense of belonging through images. The showcase will be presenting a unique and vintage experience of interacting with photography, where spectators can traverse through the old school printing techniques in an immersive manner. Walk-ins are welcome and you can find more information about the upcoming exhibition here.
