Born in Kilimanoor (Travancore), Raja Ravi Varma was an Indian painter and the first artist to successfully combine Indian subjects and forms of iconography with western influences/techniques. His themes revolved around the great Indian epics Mahabharata and Ramayana while taking inspiration from Puranas (ancient mythological stories).

He was accredited as being the one to first introduce Indian art to a global platform. Admired for his impeccable technique and simplicity, his artwork has influenced Indian literature, films and textiles and even the famous ‘Amar Chitra Kala’, India’s largest selling comic book series. He remains relevant for his charming portrayal of South Indian women and was recognised by Viceroy Lord Curzon who honoured him with the Kaisar-i-Hind Gold Medal for his service in the furtherance of public interest.

Bengaluru’s gallery g, in association with the Raja Ravi Varma Heritage Foundation and Singapore-based RtistIQ is ready with the second edition of a collection of ‘Phygital’ non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of Raja Ravi Varma’s works.

Phygital NFTs are a rare combination of digital and traditional realms offering the best of both worlds to art collectors. It will allow winning bidders to own both the physical and digital versions of the lithographic reprints as tokenised NFTs.

The limited digital editions have been exclusively minted after lithographic prints of the master painter, who is considered the father of Indian Modern Art.

Raja Ravi Varma produced many masterpieces of art during his life and here’s your chance to own their modern incarnations. Collectors will be able to acquire the Super-Rare NFTs using credit cards or cryptocurrency and can register for the auction using their email, social or MetaMask wallet.
