Bars On A Budget: Here Are 5 Of Bangalore's Cheapest Bars

Meghna Mathew

Bengaluru’s charm, as most overtly known to the rest of India, lies in its weather. And while that is true, there is so much more this city offers. The best breakfast spots (debatable but we’d win the debate), cafes, community spaces, and more. But let’s talk about the bars. Oh, the bars!

It is not simply about Bengaluru bars being a go-to destination for the youth of the city, it is about what the bar gives to you in return. This includes unforgettable experiences, new friends, the occasional start-up idea, but above all; a sense of belonging. Each night that one steps foot into a Bengaluru bar, it feels as if you’ve been there before.

So today, let us let you in on a list of some of the budget-friendly, ‘won’t-not-burn-a-hole-in-your-wallet’ bars.

I. Bob’s Bar

Where: 7th Block, Koramangala; 100 ft Road, Indiranagar; Marenahalli Road, JP Nagar

It would be unwise to begin this list with any other bar. A non-complicated and simple spot, Bob’s is a Bengaluru resident regular. Along with the ultra-affordable alcohol, their food is (positively) limited to regional South Indian dishes. While it sounds like a bizarre combination for a pub, wait till you give it a try!

Choose from any of its three outlets; the Bob’s vibe is transcendent throughout. If you’re ever in Bengaluru for a short trip, be sure to add Bob’s to your itinerary!

II. Chin Lung

Where: Residency Road, Richmond Town; 206, New BEL Rd; 80 Feet Rd, Koramangala 4th Block; 3rd Main, Gandhinagar

Another Bengaluru favourite, Chin Lung is a sprightly and bustling spot. Almost always packed, Chin Lung is where you go to drink and spend time with friends in the most convenient way. You’re bound to meet at least a couple of familiar people, and if not, you may just leave with new friends. Not someplace you would go to dance the night away, Chin Lung has more of a sit-down, enjoy-the-loud-music, repeat-the-alcohol-order type of vibe.

III. Pecos

Where: Pecos Classic at Rest House Road; Pecos - Mojo at Banaswadi Main Road; Pecos - Stones at Indiranagar 100 ft Road; Pecos - Hideout at JNC Road Koramangala

Pecos is a name everyone in the city - young or old - is familiar with. A pioneer in giving Bengaluru its ‘Pub City’ title, Pecos was founded back in 1989 and remains iconic even now. Using music as a binding factor, this pub was able to build a rather loyal customer base.

Retro rock, country rock, and blues being their music of choice, Pecos has become a frequented bar by many. This legacy is visible at all of their locations, and you may find it difficult to miss out on.

IV. House Of Commons

Where: 5th Block, Koramangala; 14th Main Road, HSR Layout; 2nd Phase, J. P. Nagar; 100 Ft Road, Indiranagar

House Of Commons is where you would imagine where a large group of friends bond over beer and bar snacks. Its multiple outlets are characterised by an ever-present crowd. They define themselves by saying, “At HOC, we’re all equals, one and the same; united by our quest for good food and drinks at great deals!”

With deals and discounts always at play, their selection of beer and cocktails is an enjoyable one.

V. Watson’s

Where: Assaye Road, Ulsoor; 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar; Kodava Samaja Building, Vasanth Nagar; 60 Feet Rd, Sahakar Nagar

When in doubt, know that Watson’s has got your back. One of the more reliable choices in the city, this chain of bars does not give you much to complain about. The beer (and other alcohol), food, and music give you an easy-going and enjoyable experience.

With regular topical events, Watson’s does not shy away from an event and waits eagerly for the Bengaluru crowd to join the fun.
