Classic Meets Avant-Garde: Dhrupad x Abelton Are Coming Together At This Mumbai Event

Especially when I am listening to music all by myself and solely concentrating on the listening aspect of it without doing anything else, it feels like the melodies floating towards me collectively and forming a snug cocoon around me, sheltering me from the woes of reality. When I’m in this meditative mood, I almost always listen to either Western or Hindustani Classical music or lofi electronic music. These two genres might seem polar opposites but that’s not quite the case. I feel that music, much like everything else in the universe, intermingles and is connected by invisible threads.

With that in mind, let me introduce you to a unique upcoming event, Sound Immersion, presented by Dhrupad X Ableton at Harkat Studios. Embark on a sonic adventure unlike any other. It will be a one-of-a-kind live performance that blends the oldest surviving style of Hindustani classical music, Dhrupad with the captivating world of electronic soundscapes. Artists Harsh and Sahitya will take you on a journey that transcends the boundaries of music, using both elemental sounds and acoustic instruments to create a truly immersive experience.

Drawing inspiration from the meditative practice of Dhrupad, the live set will treat your ears, heart, and soul with its intricate structures, resonant vocals, and powerful soundscapes as you become one with the music. Let the plethora of sounds wash over you, embarking on an experiential journey that can lead to deep relaxation, tranquility, or even the release of pent-up emotions.

Sound Immersion is the brainchild of two passionate facilitators, Harsh and Sahitya. On the surface, their backgrounds seem worlds apart. Harsh, a math teacher by day and a physics student by night, delves into the science of sound with a fascination for cymatics, the visual representation of sound vibrations. He weaves his magic with Ableton, crafting electronic soundscapes that defy definition.

Sahitya, on the other hand, is a disciple of tradition. Grounded in the ancient Indian vocal art of Dhrupad and trained under Ustad F. Wasifuddin Dagar, she brings a considerable depth of musical knowledge. But both are united by a common thread: a deep curiosity about the healing potential of sound. Sahitya's background in music therapy and her exploration of sound with Svaram further fuels her desire to create sonic experiences that resonate on a deeper level.

Together, Harsh and Sahitya bridge the gap between the ancient and the modern, promising to take you on a transformative journey through sound. The artists aim to bring balance and harmony to your inner self through the depth and beauty of frequencies and vibrations. This is a chance to pause, enter a deeper state of listening, and reconnect with yourself.
