If You've Got Stories To Tell, Get To Kommune's Story Slam This Sunday

Homegrown Staff

Telling a story, is truly an art form in itself. It’s been a part of everyone’s childhood, and as we grow, we make our own every day. Those very stories are exactly what Kommune is hoping you’ll share, this Sunday. Ones that either majorly contributed to who you are as a person today, shaping your identity—or even one about your favourite pani-puri vendor, who disappeared one night without a trace; leaving a golgappa puri shaped hole in your heart. Adding a twist to the classic Poetry Slam, they’ve come up with Story Slam, a platform for storytellers. Their main aim right now is to make this the newest cultural trend in the city.

Kommune’s Storytellers have always been carefully curated pieces, but of late, they’ve decided to relax their hold—just a teensy bit. “We’ve realized that with the vice grip we have on our content, there is a chance that we lose out on great performances and performers,” said Shamir Reuben, Kommune’s in-house slam poetry performer, “The entire point of the Story Slam was to open up our space and the entire experience of storytelling to the city and its hidden storytellers; we’re hoping to unearth some incredible first-timers through these sessions.”

If you are not too comfortable with sharing some of your more intimate and personal stories, but deem that story important enough to be told, don’t worry! The Kommune team will work with you and ensure that you feel comfortable on stage. The idea behind the Story Slam is to create an ambience for all kinds of stories and produce an amazing mix of funny, heart-breaking, life-changing and more.

“The critical aspect here is freedom, and seeing how different performers adapt to different themes,” explains Shamir. The team will be selecting 10 performers, at the event itself. They have had 25 entries so far and are expecting 40 more on the day of the event. The event is being held on 14th May, 2017 at Nicobar, Fort (Mumbai). The best story of the night will be awarded with a cash prize from Kommune and the opportunity to star in the web episode of The Story Slam on Kommune’s YouTube Channel!
