The regenerative world of Indian fashion is constantly seeking an influx of contemporary ideas that reframe the style of an era. Currently, the space seems to be challenging our conventional ideas of restrictive binaries by adapting a more fluid approach. Young designers are reflecting on fashion's role as a propeller of change in society and their collections are putting forth a more futuristic appeal to their consumers.
Their silhouettes subvert the traditional gaze by embracing an unabashed sense of rebellion. This non-compliance is further pronounced with an offbeat visual language used on social media platforms to break established notions of binary clothing. Here are three homegrown labels leading the gender fluid movement in India with a futuristic approach.
No Grey Area
“The beauty of this world lies in the synchronised symphony of juxtaposed elements, calm & chaos, light & darkness, black & white.” A modern celebration of freedom, No Grey Area is merging the traditional with the contemporary to curate a unique aesthetic sensibility. Their silhouettes stand on the spectrum and break away from gendered predispositions imposed on clothing. With an experimental identity and an inclusive line they are celebrating the freedom to shape our own paths. Their futuristic gaze combined with a minimalist aesthetic provides comfort as well as scope for an inventive wardrobe.

Vulgar
Defined as ‘forward, fluid and futuristic’, Homegrown label Vulgar manifests a non-conformist spirit that refuses the concept of age-old binaries. Here to move the wheel with fluidity and body inclusivity at the core of its narrative, they craft a space for all by modifying an archaic design process with a special focus on utility and versatility. Becoming the voice of change on social platforms, their visual language challenges conventional norms by capturing fashion from the lens of unique subcultures. One of a kind label, Vulgar is playing an active role in subverting conservative Indian ideals by embracing fashion as a celebration of different human experiences.

MARGN
Margn is a brand focused on human-centred design. With a focus on exploring a wide variety of informal cultures they hope to, “...bring unconventional men's staples rendered for a future of humanity, represented through symbolism and repetition." With a goal of disrupting traditionally defining factors for menswear, they intend to constantly explore new ideas around masculinity and identity; creating collections that challenge predefined societal norms and leading a movement that establishes new forms of menswear. Furthermore, they take a holistic approach towards sustainability by collaborating with smaller local communities of farmers for raw materials and artisans for our hand-knit garments. The brand hopes to start a conversation, to evoke emotions and to inspire curiosity within wearers and the admirers alike.
