Coronavirus Hotspots Sealed Off Across India While Kerala Flattens The Curve

A lot of measures like the Janta Curfew, Lockdown as well as Lockdown 2.0 have been imposed by the Central Government amidst the rising number of COVID-19 cases across India. A new term “hotspot” has recently emerged and the information regarding it is sparse. Whether or not your area is being considered as a hotspot entirely depends on the number of infected cases reported from the region.

What is a hotspot and why are they sealing it?

The government has identified a number of hotspots in each city. The hotspot is carefully manned by police officials and healthcare workers going door-to-door in order to conduct tests for the COVID-19. Entry to these areas is restricted and all activities inside are monitored closely.

A hotspot is an area or region which has reported a higher number of positive cases compared to other regions. In an effort to contain the COVID-19 infection, these hotspots have been sealed off.

What about essential medicines and grocery items in these areas?

The government has assured all citizens that delivery of essential medical and grocery supplies will be done to these sealed off regions. The motive behind sealing off these hotspots is complete containment of the COVID-19 and hence strict restrictions have been placed on the movement of people residing there.

In Mumbai, slum areas are reporting a high number of positive cases and have been declared as hotspots. The areas have been sealed off and door-to-door screening has begun. Areas like Dharavi, M East-Ward, Govandi, and Worli Koliwada slums have been sealed off.

Delhi Government has launched Operation SHIELD in line with mass sanitation drives across the various hotspots in the city. Operation SHIELD stands for “Sealing, Home Quarantine, Isolation and Tracking, Essential Supply, Local Sanitisation and Door-To-Door Checking”.

Kerala has gone all out in protecting its citizens from infected patients by enforcing the complete sealing of hotspots. In Kasargod, police authorities have been delivering food and medicines while taking proper precautions. After two weeks of this, with due cooperation from citizens, Kerala has more number of recovered cases than the infected ones. In a methodical manner, the state has worked its way towards flattening the COVID-19 curve.

Punjab State has started aggressive testing protocols in the identified hotspots of the state. Healthcare workers are manned with the RT-PCR and rapid testing kits to ensure that all the positive cases are under isolation.

The overall cases in India have now crossed 10,000. Maharashtra has reported almost 2,400 infected cases which is the highest number of cases in any state.

State governments are racing against time in an effort to reduce the number of positive cases and flatten the curve. Kerala State has remarkably achieved this feat and is paving the way for the rest of the country in containment due to COVID-19.
