What is street culture? To put it simply this subculture comprises creative forces pushing the limits and redefining what is considered to be the norm. Interpretations of street culture have been dipped and dyed in the pop-colours of global youth identities. They have been intrinsic to what the youth identifies with.
India has been embracing this subculture over the years. Its popularity in the subcontinent is definitely not something that can be overlooked. One of the most the most prominent aspects of street culture has undisputedly been the rise of sneaker culture. It began as a sign of resistance to the stiff and prim fashion code considered ‘acceptable’ but has gradually assumed the role of a tool of self expression. Brands, both independent and high fashion, are trying their best to catch up with this growing trend in their own unique ways — From Puma’s latest collaboration with Virat Kohli to Nova Starke making customised sneaker boxes.
