Indian companies have been working tirelessly to provide external support to the healthcare and law enforcement sector in tackling the COVID-19 outbreak all over the world. Whether it is developing robots to carry sanitisers or coming up with prototypes for ventilators, Indian innovators are relying on technology in a big way.

Bengaluru based company BlinkIN was one of the only Indian companies to help out China during the Wuhan outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus.

BlinkIN from NASSCOM- CoE Bengaluru has provided remote tech support to install air handling units at the COVID-19 field hospital in Wuhan at a time when the city was locked down.

A German company that manufactured the ventilators that were being used in Wuhan, roped in Scotty, BlinkIn’s augmented reality product to visually guide the hospital staff in Wuhan all the way from Germany.

The hospital staff could point their phone cameras to any part of the machine and the AR markers would indicate what needed to be done, while a technician in Germany explained the process to them.

Scotty uses WebGL, a JavaScript API, which is a lightweight rendering mechanism on a compatible browser. The motive behind this is to get the job done without utilising a lot of GPU (graphics processing units), which is a standard feature of AR-enabled projects. You can learn more about this here.

In times like these, we are grateful to the various startups and their work in using technology for tackling a pandemic such as the Coronavirus, which required maximum social distancing and lockdowns in various countries. In the coming days, technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality will come in handy to researchers and medical health professionals in their fight against COVID-19.
