Sometime in April 2024, homegrown fashion brand Raw Mango transitioned into its newly designed six-story headquarters in Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon. More than just an office, the space serves as a seamless extension of the brand’s ethos — one that thrives on heritage, materiality, and a deeply personal connection to design. For the first time in its journey, Raw Mango has a dedicated space that is not a retail store but rather a headquarters that is a true reflection of its creative spirit. “You can see and feel the brand’s journey. I’m proud of how alive it feels,” says founder and designer Sanjay Garg, while in conversation with Homegrown India.

Designed by architect Saurabh Dakshin of Studio Organon, the office integrates all aspects of the brand’s operations under one roof, from design and production to merchandising and communication. The transition has fostered a more collaborative workflow, bringing together previously scattered teams. “Before the move, we had been working in three different pockets, but now all our work is together. The work doesn’t happen in silos — it’s collaborative. There’s constant back and forth between people and teams, and things happen then and there," Garg adds.

At first glance, the space carries the raw, industrial DNA of its past life as a garment production unit. Exposed pipes, metal scaffolding, and raw finishes form its skeleton, yet, this industrial facade is softened by sweeping glass windows that let in ample natural light, a garden that connects it to nature, and carefully chosen objects that exude warmth and character. When asked about how the Raw Mango HQ seamlessly blends this industrial rawness withcurated objects as well as archival artwork and pieces, Sanjay Garg shared that, “These aren’t things we made a conscious effort to do. It just happens; we don’t know how to do things differently.”

“Rather than influencing our process, the space is in fact a reflection of us and our design philosophy. It's an ongoing dialogue I have with myself and it's made up of my curiosities.”

The headquarters houses an extensive collection of objects — both personal and archival — that have been collected over time. Terracotta pots and brass urns sit alongside 19th-century wrought iron haveli chairs, traditional Naga sculptures, and archaeological finds from Cambodia and Sri Lanka. “The objects we’ve collected over the years bring life to the office. We have also retained elements of the space that were already there, rather than excessively creating something for the sake of it,” Garg explains. Among the more unconventional elements are acrylic molds of sculptures — discarded pieces given a second life, mirroring the brand’s philosophy of honouring what exists rather than creating anew for the sake of it.

Materiality is central to Raw Mango’s work, whether in textiles or interiors. “My motivation isn’t about a specific material — it is about an idea; designing with a respect and understanding of materiality, culture, and history,” says Garg. This ethos manifests in the new space, where remnants of past projects have been repurposed: a dining table crafted from scrap wood, an office table fashioned from a single block of stone, and design elements salvaged from a Raw Mango store.

Nature, too, plays a significant role in shaping the space. For Garg, who grew up in a Rajasthani village and previously worked out of a garden house in Delhi, maintaining a connection to nature was essential. “Bringing that proximity to nature; the garden from Delhi to Gurgaon, was important to me,” he says. The new office features mezzanine layers that open into a courtyard-like expanse, removing barriers and allowing for both visual and functional fluidity.

Beyond its aesthetic and functional significance, the new headquarters marks an important milestone in Raw Mango’s evolution. It is a space that encapsulates not only the brand’s past and present but also its future; a sanctuary of design, dialogue, and craftsmanship, set against the industrial sprawl of Gurgaon. “It solves for how people use the space, so everyone is in the right place, like a puzzle,” Garg notes. In this haven of thoughtful design, Raw Mango’s journey continues, rooted in tradition, but always looking forward.
