Summary

Following the success of its inaugural edition, Homegrown Music returns with the second HGM Showcase on July 18 at The Humming Tree, Bengaluru. Headlined by South Indian hip-hop sensation MC Couper, the event also features genre-bending singer-songwriter Viepsa Arora and producer-guitarist Raj.

After the resounding success and acclaim of its first edition, which featured Reble, Rae Mulla and two exciting up-and-comers in Mehr and Kabir Homegrown Music is back a second time for its one-of-a-kind showcase series on the 18th of July at the Humming Tree in Bengaluru. The showcase promises an evening that captures the breadth and diversity of contemporary independent music.

Headlining the event is MC Couper, one of the most exciting voices emerging from South India’s hip-hop landscape. Celebrated for his razor-sharp lyricism and effortless movement between Malayalam and English, MC Couper is known for his storytelling and infectious energy. Tracks such as 'Ayyayyo' and film anthems like 'Mathapithakkale' have helped establish him as a powerful force within India’s rapidly evolving rap scene.

Joining him on the lineup is Delhi based artist, Viepsa Arora, whose genre-blending approach has made her one of the most intriguing new voices in the independent music ecosystem. Moving between alternative, electronic, and pop influences, Arora’s dreamy, atmospheric songwriting and distinctive style have earned her collaborations across the indie and hip-hop spectrum.

Completing the showcase is Delhi based producer and guitarist, Raj, performing a live set that reflects his eclectic musical sensibilities. Drawing inspiration from classic rock, electronic music, lo-fi jazz, house, and indie soul, Raj’s work is characterized by a willingness to experiment. His fusion of Indian classical elements with contemporary global sounds embodies the cross-cultural creativity that increasingly defines India’s independent music movement.

The event will be taking place at the iconic The Humming Tree, a venue that played a pivotal role in nurturing Bengaluru’s alternative music culture between 2013 and 2019. Reopening in 2026 in a purpose-built Indiranagar space, the venue combines state-of-the-art production capabilities with a renewed commitment to community and artistic collaboration.

Together, the HGM Showcase and The Humming Tree’s revival reflect a broader moment for India’s independent music scene driven by experimentation, regional voices, and a new generation of artists who are reshaping contemporary Indian music.
