Disha Bijolia

Welcome to Homegrown's New Music Round-Up, the ultimate destination for discovering the week's hottest releases across all genres. Each week, we curate a handpicked and homegrown selection of fresh sounds. This week features chillwave, hip-hop and more.

Identity Theft by Yashraj, Chaar Diwaari & Manïn

In Identity Theft from Yashraj's latest EP, Ladke Convict, the Mumbai-based rapper collaborates with fellow artists Hanumankind, Chaar Diwaari, and Manïn to deliver a high-energy and satirical take on the theme of identity theft in the music industry. The track featuring Yashraj and Chaar Diwaari, along with Manïn, explores the biting issue of artists imitating each other's sonic styles and identities. This adrenaline-fueled rage track doesn't hold back in its production, delivery, or lyrics, offering a glimpse into the artists' raw and unfiltered perspective on the matter.

Spiral by OLD

Guhawati-based electronic artist Saurabh Choraria, who goes by OLD crafts a unique sonic experience in his track 'Spiral.' Opening with an immersive soundscape of approaching thunder, the song transitions seamlessly into a rain-soaked atmosphere. A departure from the conventional, OLD employs a 3/4 time signature in the track. Spiral aims to captivate listeners with its morning focus-inducing vibes, while also serving as a fitting soundtrack for suspenseful nightscapes. Synths are the driver of the track taking the listeners through an ethereal joyride, that's reminiscent of the neon chillwave subculture but with a more natural, moonglade undertone instead of the long highways and citylights.

Mai Hoon Gian by Dalai Thapa

Delhi/London-based freelance journalist Dalai Thapa releases his debut EP Hungama Pogo conceptualized around all our favourite cartoons from the 2000s. It's an endearing and quite honestly, hilarious production rooted in escapist nostalgia that is bound to send all us Shinchan-Doraemon-Power Rangers era kids straight down memory lane. The EP is full of delightful like the Chota Bheem diss track and a rant by the red Power Ranger but my favourite has to be Mai Hoon Gian, about the not-so-gentle giant who was known for his unbearable singing voice.

Sunflowers by Sangram Malik ft. Shekhar Rawat

In his latest single Sunflowers featuring Shekhar Rawat, Sangram Malik presents a captivating perspective on the timeless theme of love and longing. The song delicately delves into the complexities of love, weaving a vivid narrative of yearning and affection. With lyrics penned by Sangram Malik and enriched by the soul-stirring vocals of Shekhar Rawat, Sunflowers transcends mere composition to become a musical odyssey. It skillfully merges elements of Indian classical sounds, electrifying guitar riffs, and the rhythmic heartbeat of acoustic drums, promising a refreshing and immersive listening experience.
