Nestled amidst the towering peaks of Nainital, The Mountain Home by AMU Design Studio is a testament to the art of blending cultural influences and local craftsmanship into awe-inspiring interiors. Anchored by the vision of its owners, Captain Ashok Mehra and his wife, originally from Almora, Uttarakhand, this remarkable home not only offers comfort but also serves as a poignant reflection of their deep-rooted connection to Kumaoni heritage.
The vision for this remarkable home was inspired by the majestic mountains enveloping the area. Led by Principal Designer Rohit Chaudhary and Architect Vipendra Chauhan, the team aimed to create an expansive living space that would offer panoramic views of the mountains from every corner. The result is a double-ceiling living room that imparts a villa-like ambiance, ensuring that the beauty of the outdoors is always within reach.
What sets The Mountain Home apart is its meticulous attention to detail, where every element is carefully chosen to create a sanctuary that invites relaxation and a reconnection with the serenity of the natural world. From the rustic beds to the live-edge dining table, each piece of furniture adds to the overall sense of comfort and tranquillity.
One of the most striking features is the authentic Kumaoni fireplace, a nod to the Kumaoni roots of the owners, Captain Ashok Mehra and his wife Tulsi. The Kumaoni artwork adorning the front wall pays homage to the Kumaoni roots of the owners, adding a personal touch to the home. It's a seamless fusion of culture and nature, creating an atmosphere of warmth and nostalgia. The use of fresh floral print wallpaper introduces a touch of drama to the otherwise serene ambience. Opposite the dining area, the fireplace, constructed in the traditional Kumauni style with natural stone, stands as a symbol of enduring craftsmanship and a connection to the land.
Moreover, The Mountain Home celebrates local craftsmanship. The rustic dining table and hand-crafted beds are the work of a skilled local carpenter from Haldwani, adding an authentic touch to the interiors. Even the ceiling lamp, sourced from a local vendor in Delhi, contributes to the home's authenticity.
In The Mountain Home, AMU Design Studio has succeeded in creating not just a place to live but a living, breathing homage to the mountains and the cultural heritage of its owners. It's a retreat where every element, from the design to the local craftsmanship, harmonizes to offer a unique and unforgettable experience in the heart of nature's grandeur.
