Summer of 2022 is upon us and how! The heat is ruthless, and our ways of beating it are limited.
Going for a dip in the pool or a getaway to the beach is always the most summer-appropriate option. As India embraces fashion in all its spheres, one homegrown area where the country has been making significant strides forward is swimwear. Now, with several options to choose from, swimwear need not be dull.
Let’s take a look at some homegrown labels giving us just the swim attire we need.
I. Esha Lal Swimwear
With weekly new arrivals, Esha Lal Swimwear is an environmentally conscious label that caters to swimwear and resort wear. The label’s designs scream ‘summer’ and its fabric is extremely breathable. One of their lines is made from the fabric made from discarded fishing nets –– a true example of eco-conscious creations. The lovely prints are watercolour paintings by Esha Lal herself and give an authentic and playful feel to the collections.

II. Guapa Resort Wear
Guapa describes themselves as ‘fun, effortless and comfortable’, and we could not agree more. Founder Reby Kumar brings together colour and functionality in her collections, which are not limited to swimwear, but also cover-ups, co-ord sets, and more. The label’s transparency on who made their clothes, and where they come from is commendable, and something more homegrown brands should take on.

III. Nadi Nadi
Sister label to Hannan Jewellery, Nadi Nadi is a modern and bold swimwear brand. Their comfort with their materials led them to go beyond jewellery and explore another outlet that allows the flow of creativity. Their collections span solid colour, patterns, shimmer, and more - with something for everyone, Nadi Nadi’s full looks offer you the ease of putting together a whole outfit, without any hassle.

IV. The Summer House
The Summer House is not solely a swimwear brand, and also offers dresses, skirts, jackets, and the like. They work with ‘rural artisans to sustain traditional craft techniques and textiles’. Their swimwear, however, catches our eye with their simple colours yet interesting designs that set them apart from being just another swimsuit or bikini set.
#HGLoves their ‘Rooney - Green & Black’ which gives you the option of reversing the already wonderful green swimsuit into one that also features black.

V. Papaaya Swimwear
Founder Maia Shroff’s brainchild Papaaya swimwear came to be in 2021. This Mumbai-based brand loves to give you more than a swimsuit - it aims to give you summer in a box! In the designs’ simplicity lies its beauty, and Papaaya makes simplicity all the more desirable.
If we were you, we’d jump on that Mojito set right about now.

Not shying away from colour or print, the inspiration from Indian heritage is highlighted in each piece.
