Natania's New MV Turns The Hellscape That Is Modern Love Into Dreamy Maximalist Art

Disha Bijolia

A situationship is a special kind of hell. Even the mightiest warriors with high-self esteems do not come out unscathed from its battle grounds. The maze of U-turns that one goes through where one day it feels like you’re soulmates, exchanging playlists and having deep late-night confessions and trauma dumping, and the next day. It’s radio silence, with you scrolling through their socials and analyzing every meme they share.

You try to convince yourself that you should cut them off because they're not good for you but all the logic just feels like smoke and mirrors to the rollercoaster of emotions your heart puts you through. But hey, maybe our hearts were wired for a bit of drama— or as Natania aptly calls it, 'Nautanki'.

Natania’s latest single dives headfirst into this bittersweet mess. With a playful beat and a catchy Hindi melody, the song wraps up the nostalgia of past loves in a glittery, chaotic package. It’s an ode to those moments when you find yourself clinging to a connection, even when the universe (and your BFF) screams, “Move on!” The track captures the absurdity of stubborn hearts refusing to let go. The music video, directed by Sharic Sequeira, is an absolute visual treat. Set in a speed-dating scenario dripping with maximalist grandeur of eccentric costumes and over-the-top theatrics, it’s funny but it’s also painfully relatable.

Through a lineup of archetypes we all recognize the video playfully highlights how everyone seems to have a 'type'. It’s like we’re all stuck in a dating maze, inevitably drawn to the same profiles that fit our preferences like a glove. These archetypes have an almost magnetic pull, making us chase them through the labyrinth of love, even when the outcome feels maddeningly predictable. The video captures this cycle with tongue-in-cheek humor, making us laugh and wince at the same time.

A Mumbai girl with a global dream, Natania moved to Los Angeles at 18 to chase her passion for music. And she most definitely delivered. Signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation as a songwriter and now to DESI TRILL as an artist, she’s crafted a sound that’s as much about her Indian roots as it is about her experiences in the West.

If her name rings a bell, it’s probably because she’s the lyrical genius behind hits for Bella Poarch, J Balvin, and Armaan Malik, or because her debut single, Gulzar, became the track of the summer, ruling Shazam charts and Instagram reels. But Natania isn’t just a hitmaker — she’s a storyteller as well. Whether she’s writing about the intoxicating pull of love or the nostalgic echoes of a past relationship, her music hits right where it hurts (in the best way).

With Nautanki, she brings us an Indo-west pop avenue to for us to laugh our own emotional melodrama, then hit replay because, let’s face it, the heart wants what it wants.
