Native Indian's New Singles Explore The Human Condition Through Sci-fi & Mythology

The Purpose of Rituals
The Purpose of RitualsL: Gary Curzai R: Native Indian

Chennai-based producer, rapper and singer Native Indian is back again with ‘The Purpose of Rituals' — a series of singles that will be a prequel to the story line established in his debut album. Siva Baskaran last released 'Vol 1 - Nature of the Self’ in 2019, which further led to features in Bandcamp's Best Global Hip Hop - April 2019 and Best Upcoming Hip-Hop Producers in India, amongst a few other incredible reviews.

Through a concoction of various musical styles, his new releases attempt to capture a fantastical universe. In his debut single, a demi-god traveled to ancient India, meeting his ancestors and understanding their belief systems as well as their environments. 'The Purpose of Rituals' will be a series of singles, serving as a prequel and adding more to the origins of the demi-god and the circumstances that made them embark on their journey.

As from the beginning, the intent of the project is to explore human conditioning with characters firmly based on distinctly Indian lore. Through a mix of sci-fi and mythology, the Tamil fusion electronic track delves into a curiousity driven understanding of the universe. The layered project presents a fusion of diverse sounds and textures, providing a portal into the artist's surreal imagination.

'Convergence' is the first single that was released on 2nd June 2023 across all streaming platforms. The track was mixed by the phenomenal musician, singer and producer Khushi, who has worked with the likes of James Blake, Monica Martin amongst others and further mastered by Alex Solano, a mixing engineer, Dolby mixer and educator based in LA. The independent single is truly special as it is the artists first attempt at spoken word in Tamil.
