They say that necessity is the mother of invention but that saying is not always true. With the rapid rise in technology, things we never imagined are becoming a reality. This brings us to one of the latest inventions to come out of Chennai—a dosa printer. Yes, as quirky as it sounds, it exists.

Chennai-based company Evochef has come out with the world’s first smart dosa maker and it is priced at ₹15,999. Like a printer printing out your work documents or your latest screenplay, this kitchen appliance will print out the famous South Indian cuisine, dosas. It is the first instance of 3D printing being used in a home appliance. It is also available now in Bengaluru and is being provided by Infinia Kitchen.

The preparation process is fairly simple. One needs to pour the batter into the batter compartment and switch on the machine. You can select the cooking time(the longer the cooking time, the crispier the dosa), the thickness, and the number of dosas you want to be prepared. Within a few minutes, the machine will start printing your dosas. You can add some ghee, butter, cheese or oil for added flavor.

There’s been quite a lot of hullabaloo on Twitter about this latest technology. While some called it an unnecessary invention, there were many who felt an urgent need to have a dosa printer in their kitchen.
