Our homes are an extension of who we are. Only when they reflect our values, our stories, and our spirit, we can say that it feels like home. When a residence becomes a mirror to one's essence, it transcends the ordinary and becomes a work of art. In the picturesque locale of Karivellur, Kerala, the Skin & Bone Residence stands as an extraordinary testament to this intrinsic connection between identity and space.
This residence, designed by A Line Studio, embraces a captivating narrative inspired by the retired headmaster and the recipient of the national teacher's award, Kodakkad Narayanan. The home effortlessly captures the essence of Narayanan's legacy. Reminiscent of a school with its playful design and architecture, it pays homage to his character and values. It's a tribute to his commitment to simplicity and elegance.
The central core of the house is a masterclass in design, featuring an airy double-height living space, an intimate dining area overlooking an internal garden, and a personalized yoga platform. These spaces are thoughtfully separated from the private zones, housing the bedrooms and the kitchen. The residence ingeniously employs eco-conscious materials like coconut shells, bamboo, jute along with nature seamlessly woven into the living experience, with existing mango trees and lush vegetation in a biophilic design.
Outside, the Skin & Bone Residence makes a bold statement about reusing and recycling with grace and style. The front façade, reminiscent of Narayanan's spirit, incorporates a visually captivating array of repurposed exhaust fans, responding to the ever-changing wind patterns. The main entrance, subtly concealed within the front façade, creates a sense of venturing into the unknown, adding an air of intrigue to this unique abode.
In essence, the Skin & Bone Residence is not just a place to live; it's a journey that narrates one's life story. It captures the spirit of essential living down to its name, providing a deeper connection to one's feelings and senses through sustainable architecture, echoing the legacy of a remarkable educator and individual.
