The Digital Nomad Visa: Everything Indian Remote Workers Need To Know

Gulbahaar Kaur

Being able to travel freely while keeping a full-time job has always seemed impossible. As a result of the recent world events, this notion seems to be more achievable than ever. One decent take away from the pandemic has been the increase in remote work. Companies adapting to people’s lifestyles have led to an increase in productivity and employee satisfaction. Taking note of the evolving work culture many countries are now offering remote workers digital nomad visas.

In recent years the term digital nomads is used to describe people who work remotely and telecommute rather than physically being present at a company’s office. This practice is actively shaping many successful companies and is the embodiment of a healthy work culture.

As the tourism industry continues to struggle with people remaining reluctant to travel, this move will attract more visitors while providing an opportunity for homebound workers to change pace and adapt to a refreshing environment. The earlier requirement for tourist visas has been replaced as 25+ regions have now launched visa programmes that enable travellers to work legally, longer and more freely. It’s also a great opportunity for freelancers to expand their connections beyond one country. Additionally, these visas are also available to certain students, although the costs and requirements may vary.

If you’re someone that aspires to achieve such flexibility with their work environments and yearn for regular travel, these digital nomad visas provide an opportunity for you to carve out a unique lifestyle. The following regions provide a change of scenery from your typical work location:

Andorra, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cabo Verde, Cayman Islands, Croatia, Curaçao, Dominica, Dubai, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Iceland, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, Montserrat, Norway, Seychelles, Spain, Taiwan and The Czech Republic.

Most recently the Brazilian government has established a digital nomad visa as well. The initiative is brought to Brazil by the same organisation behind the first ‘digital nomad village’ on the Portuguese island of Madeira.

To become location-independent and enjoy a more vibrant lifestyle with a good dose of travel, you can look into the varying requirements provided by each region for you to obtain a digital nomad visa.
