Originating with a skateboarding community in Kerala, SKATRD is a trans-seasonal skatewear brand that intends to bring the skateboarding culture to India. Organising the biggest contests and skate jams in the country, they cater to season-fluid and massively growing trends. The biggest inspiration for the brand comes from the people themselves, it’s not just for skateboard lovers but everyone who has the mindset to live a free and comfortable life.
The first Indian brand exclusively for skateboarders, SKATRD blends the cultures to present a line of comfortable, trend-appropriate products that come flavoured with the streetwear mood. As fellow skaters, their inspiration comes from the sport and the culture which comes along with it. It’s a brand by skaters and for skaters around the country. Launched in 2020, the brands tagline states ‘Uniting Scattered Skateboarders’, and aims to bring together every skateboarder in India and grow the culture and the sport as a whole.
Their first collection, CARVED was inspired by the shapes of skateboards, showcasing the evolution of the boards through the years. The second collection was named SKATE CHANGE LIFE inspired by the culture of skateboarding and how skate-boarding changed the lives of many. They started a campaign where skate-boarders like Gajendra from Nepal, Rahul from Kerala and few other skateboarders around the country talked about how the sport changed their life. Finally, the third collection was in collaboration with India’s leading skateboard suppliers, Piso Skateboarders.
Not just a fashion brand, SKATRD has a skateboarding community in Kerala, which are actively skateboarding around the streets of Kerala to show the love for the sport and create awareness among the people about the sport and the culture. Their focus is on creating awareness in the form of workshops, summer programs and weekly school classes for the kids in Kannur, kerala. The Summer Skate Program is conducted with 7-10 kids and adults on a daily basis, which includes teaching of basics (knowing your board, the parts of the board) and cruising sessions.
The founders of the unique label are on a mission to share their love for skateboarding with fellow Indians and in the process form a community of learners and enthusiasts. The clothing is aimed at presenting a deeper insight into the culture, much like the skateboarding culture that helps connect people.
