Dopamine decor and dressing are two trends that consistently show up on my favourite online escape platform, Pinterest. And it was my algorithm conspiring in my favour, and against my wallet when dopamine rush-inducing brands started popping up on my instagram as well. But even if I managed to rise above my impulse-shopping nature, and managed to not shop from these many brands, I couldn’t stop thinking about them. Especially the tableware and decor brand Patchou Home.

Founded by Amrita Thampi Mukherji, Patchou is a vibrant, homegrown brand that invites one to “make an event out of every meal” with them, through their inventive tableware and decor, and their suggestions on how to add playfulness to one’s tablescapes. With colours and designs that remind one of the 70s and 80s, Patchou offers fun, quirky functional decor. From their Bauhaus Cocktail Glass featuring Cobalt Blue or Warm Amber details to their Pastel Phulkari Placemat in light blue and bright red that bridge Western design language with Indian craftsmanship in a seamlessly beautiful way, the brand has a great selection of items to add to your dining ware collection.

The website is strategically divided into dedicated segments, such as About Us, Drink, Dine, Entertain and Supper Club. The last segment is an intriguing way to introduce their blog, which currently has an informative guide on how best to host a fun and fabulous gathering, incorporating Patchou pieces. The About Us section sheds a little more light on the longer thought process that went into the brand. According to it, “From bold patterns to unexpected textures and forms, our tableware is meticulously crafted to elevate your dining experience. At Patchou, we want to celebrate the joy of bringing people together over the dining table, and creating unforgettable tablescapes that reflect your unique personality and flair.”

The ‘Drink’ segment has a variety of drinkware that includes even pink and green martini glasses that would be perfect for a ‘Wicked’ themed party. The range otherwise extends to highball glasses, lowball glasses, a flower-like ‘butter cup wine glass’ to a unique glass tumbler and the aforementioned Bauhaus Cocktail glass in a myriad of colourful tones.

The ‘Dine’ segment is an ode to the little talked about ‘Memphis Movement’ of design that was described by many as underappreciated and reduced to being ‘a cross between Bauhaus and Fisher-price’. But if the designs by Patchou are anything to go by, those who claimed that the post-modern design style was severely underappreciated, were in the right. The details of the style are seen especially in the scalloped edge details on the resin coasters in candy-like hues, and the Carnival Napkins that feature the brand’s signature Carnival Light embroidery, along a ‘Memphis Movement’ signature wavy edges. This segment also features the aforementioned Phulkari Placemat in cornflower blue and red - a gorgeous combination of primary colours, and Nonna’s striped placemat in similar hues and one variant in pink lilac and orange that invites you to embrace your inner coastal grandma. The well-crafted Moonflower plates - both the dinner and quarter size variants -  are reminiscent of vintage frames with their brushed brass edges, and playful tones.

Finally, the ‘Entertain’ segment of the website features everything one would need to entertain from a ‘tipple table’ for drinks that can add a pop of unexpected red to your room to assorted candle stands and table lamps for setting an ambience and even a conversation making a piece like Le Blob that is hand blown to perfection, and works great as as an ashtray or a pretty storage for candies or knick-knacks that catch your fancy.

If you love candy hues, love to host friends or just stock up on dopamine decor for yourself, Patchou Homes is a great homegrown brand whose pieces have been well-thought-out, designed and crafted to perfection.
