Pune-based singer, songwriter, producer, and guitarist Brendon D'Souza AKA Ren comes from a family that is deeply passionate about music, and has been playing the guitar since he was just 10 years old. Heavily influenced by pop, rock, and electronic music, the artist has been working hard to hone his skills and create his own unique sound with meaningful lyrics that are delivered with powerful vocals and catchy hooks.
After performing at a range of venues and festivals in Pune, both as part of a band and as a solo and duo over the past two years, Brendon recently released a 3-track, alt-pop EP Lsn exploring unrequited love, betrayal and regret.
All I Had sets the tone with its haunting melody and raw, heartfelt lyrics. The song explores the aftermath of a failed relationship, with the singer grappling with feelings of hurt and betrayal as they struggle to move on from their former lover.
The title track Lsn continues in a similar vein, with a driving beat and a catchy chorus that belies the song's more introspective themes. The lyrics speak to the pain of unrequited love, with the singer expressing frustration and confusion over a relationship that never quite materialised.
Strangers is a departure from the introspective tone of the previous two tracks, with more instrumental melodies and a sense of wistful nostalgia. The song explores the idea of chance encounters and missed connections, with the singer recalling an encounter with a stranger and lamenting the fact that they'll likely never see them again.
Lsn displays a meticulously-crafted sonic landscape that sets the brooding tone of vulnerability and desperation through Brendon's filtered and chopped vocals and the immersive production that utilizes percussive elements, distorted echoes and reverberating effects to create a sense of space and movement, sporadically enriching the narratives of love, loss, and self-discovery.
