From a vintage tapestry that’s been upcycled into a unique gorgeous, well-constructed corset, to an old bottle of Jack Daniels that’s been melted down to make a one-of-a-kind ashtray, Tiger and Twig is a circular label that started from Mumbai in 2021. Founded by Istituto Marangoni graduate Pooja Shah, the label started with its fashion ventures, but has always focused on sustainability.

Tiger and Twig is one of the many brands leading the charge towards conscious living that doesn’t compromise on aesthetics. According to their website, the brand was founded after Pooja’s realisation that that change doesn’t have to be overwhelming and that small, manageable steps can make a significant impact. The brand’s philosophy centres on accessibility and affordability, embracing the concepts of 'zero-waste' and 'minimalism' as guidelines rather than absolutes. This approach allows their community to transition towards a more sustainable lifestyle without feeling pressured to make drastic changes overnight.

According to an earlier feature with Indulge Express, Pooja Shah, the founder of Tiger and Twig, brings a unique perspective to the brand, blending her background in optometry with her passion for fashion. Her journey into fashion was driven by a desire to create relevant and meaningful designs, but with a dash of drama, functionality, and sustainability, owing to the hand-painting and embroidery on upcycled materials.

Pooja’s commitment to the world of circular fashion is evident in her use of rejected fabrics and avoidance of plastic embellishments. Each piece from Tiger and Twig is both beautiful and responsible. The brand aims to normalise the use of sustainable products in everyday life; offering alternatives that are not only eco-friendly but also stylish and functional. The brand is a testament to the belief that sustainability and style can coexist beautifully, if you’re willing to learn and grow towards making more mindful choices.

One-Of-A-Kind Pieces That Tell A Story

A standout pieces from Tiger and Twig is their ‘Cliché - Crochet Pants’. These pants are a nod to the traditional art of crocheting that has been seeing a major resurgence of late, and are handcrafted by artisans. Each pair takes 4-5 days to complete, resulting in unique pieces where no two are identical. Made from a cotton blend yarn, they are not just stylish but also comfortable, as they are tightly knitted and have a non-see-through finish. After this piece became one of their best-sellers, they’ve added a number of crocheted pieces to their repertoire - from dresses to a shirt with crocheted pocket detail.

Another popular from Tiger and Twig is their Bandana Coord Set, a best-seller known for its effortless style that is made to size. This set, along with other pieces like the Anthophile Shirt crafted from rejected fabrics using a patchwork technique, or their Hand Painted Vintage Floral Jacket made from upcycled denim, showcases the brand’s commitment to using rejected fabrics and upcycling materials, ensuring that no two pieces are alike.

While the above pieces are those that can be recreated, but not replicated, Tiger and Twig proudly crafts upcycled, one-of-a-kind attire. These include their Vintage Tea Towel Shirt and Pants, crafted from pure linen tea towels with unique prints and patterns or their ‘Tapestry’ corset and hoodie. For collectors and art enthusiasts, these pieces offer the chance to own a piece of history, reimagined into contemporary fashion. Each original piece made by Tiger and Twig is marked with a number, and no two pieces are remotely alike. Even though being crafted from vintage materials pose a limitation when it comes to sizing, they are a unique addition to the wardrobe of the discerning fashion lover.

For those who didn’t find your size in the design you liked, Tiger and Twig offers a unique service where you can transform your existing denims or old pieces into something entirely new and personalised. The customer can collaborate with the Tiger and Twig design team to create a piece that's uniquely yours, or choose from a curated selection of designs available on their website such as bandana designs or floral motifs.

Beyond Clothing: A Lifestyle of Conscious Choices

Tiger and Twig's ethos today extends beyond clothing. In early April this year, they started featuring their upcycled, one-off pieces on the Tiger and Twig Marketplace instagram page. The brand has always been offering a wide range of upcycled pieces that extend beyond attire, including candles with unique scents like dried orange and cinammon sticks, upcycled glass bottle chandeliers, and other products made from upcycling or through a zero-waste approach. But the dedicated instagram page is a new addition. Some of the new notable homeware pieces from Tiger and Twig include their Jagermeister Upcycled Clock and the Argus C3 Lampshades, both embodying the brand’s dedication to turning everyday objects into stylish, functional art. Their commitment to sustainability is further highlighted by their communication and brand language, where each original design, curated art experiment and collectibles bear their overarching motto: "Reclaimed > Reworked > Made to Treasure."

As Tiger and Twig grows, it is changing with the times. With a base in Mumbai and a growing presence online, the brand offers a vibrant collection that celebrates individuality, craftsmanship, and eco-conscious living. Whether through their clothing, accessories, or home decor, Tiger and Twig invites their community to make a statement with pieces that are as unique as they are sustainable.
