Fresh Cargo, a new initiative by On the Jungle Floor, debuts at The Humming Tree on World Music Day with a day-long celebration of music discovery, vinyl culture, food, drinks, and community. Beginning with an outdoor cookout and record market before evolving into a global dancefloor experience, the event features Donna Leake, DJ Scribe, Drum Ani Bass, and OTJF Selectors, bringing together sounds from across genres, cultures, and continents.

Fresh Cargo, a new music and culture experience by On the Jungle Floor (OTJF), arrives at The Humming Tree this World Music Day with the intention of creating a space where listening becomes an act of exploration and community becomes part of the soundtrack.

Conceived as more than just a concert or club night, Fresh Cargo brings together multiple facets of music culture under one roof. Records, food, cocktails, conversations, and sounds come together to create an experience that celebrates the joy of finding something unexpected. Whether it's a genre you've never heard before, a vinyl record waiting to be rediscovered, or a conversation sparked between strangers, the event is designed around that moment of serendipity.

The day begins at 2 PM with Cookout Under The Tree, a relaxed afternoon gathering set in the outdoor section of The Humming Tree. Here, visitors can browse through the OTJF Record Shop's collection of fresh arrivals and pre-loved vinyl while enjoying food, drinks, and selector-led sets. Regardless of how dependent we are currently on algorithm-driven recommendations for our music listening experiences, crate digging remains one of music culture's most rewarding rituals, and Fresh Cargo embraces that spirit wholeheartedly. The record shop component offers collectors and curious newcomers alike an opportunity to engage with music in a tactile way.

As the evening progresses, Fresh Cargo moves upstairs for a dancefloor experience that draws from musical traditions and underground sounds from across the globe. The line-up embraces OTJF's commitment to boundary-crossing curation, bringing together artists whose selections traverse continents, eras, and genres.

Leading the bill is Donna Leake, the London-based broadcaster and selector known for her celebrated shows on NTS Radio. Her sets move effortlessly through jazz, soul, reggae, dub, spiritual sounds, and rare grooves, creating immersive listening journeys that have earned her an international following. Joining her is DJ Scribe from the United States, founder of the influential I Love Vinyl movement and a lifelong advocate for vinyl culture. His approach blends deep musical knowledge with a passion for preserving and celebrating records as living cultural artifacts.

Representing India is Drum Ani Bass, whose live performances draw energy from drum & bass while incorporating an expansive range of influences and textures. Completing the line-up are OTJF's own selectors, whose carefully crafted sets have helped build the collective's reputation for adventurous programming.

Fresh Cargo refuses to separate listening from the community. Rather than treating music as background entertainment, the event invites audiences to engage with sound as a shared cultural experience. On World Music Day, a celebration intended to honour music's ability to connect people across borders and backgrounds, Fresh Cargo offers an opportunity to remember that some of the most memorable musical journeys begin with curiosity and chance.
