Fathima Abdul Kader

Whether you’re someone who goes all out for Diwali with parties galore, or have small intimate events at home where you gorge on sweets and take afternoon naps, Diwali is certainly a time of celebration. From casual cotton kurta sets to glam-stitched sarees, it’s the best time to shop for Festive wear, as most brands go all out to create unique collections in the lead-up to the festival.

After scouring through the many Indian brands that have created unique festive collections this season, we whittled our list of Homegrown list of Indian wear brands for Diwali 2023, down to the brands below:

I. Maku Kameez by Maku Textiles

Maku Textiles as a brand is known for its love and experiments with the slow fashion of handloom and for using organic textiles that are created by traditional hand-weaving techniques. Putting textiles at the forefront of their design practice, Maku has created an extension of their collection with Maku Kameez. This festive collection includes jewel-toned designs featuring fine mulberry silk or pieces constructed in handspun cotton or linen. From peasant dresses and sarees to Salwar sets and blouses, the collection features limited but elegant pieces that highlight the beauty of fine Indian textile craft.

II. Angrakhaa Indian

A brand that is known for its inclusivity and comfort, Angrakhaa is a women-led brand that puts the customer in focus. From leveraging UGC to appeal to a wider audience to creating pieces that are convenient and stylish for all body types, they have found success through their approach to design and marketing. They recently launched their dedicated Indian collection that features flowy sarees to fun coord sets in Indian prints and even embellished salwar suits and lehengas for dressier functions. What especially sets the brand apart is the fact that for all the designs, they offer sizing up to 5XL which is still a rarity, especially among ready-to-wear brands in India.

For those seeking to go all out for Diwali, Label Pritika Vora is a great option. This homegrown mid-luxury brand is based out of Mumbai and is reinventing traditional Indian ethnic wear with modern silhouettes and unique embellishments and embroidery. Their latest collection which was revealed in August titled Khwab is still very relevant to the current festive trends. It features a collection of sarees that are reinvented for the modern, young customer - from pre-draped silhouettes and dhoti pants to those with ruffles and structured blouses in colours that range from pastel pinks and periwinkle to midnight blue and forest green.
