The fourth volume of Kanakavalli's ongoing Antar Anga series invites audiences into Vanam Singaramm an enchanted forest presided over by Vana Devi, the goddess of the woodland. Here, the fauna that have adorned Kanjivaram saris for generations are no longer static motifs confined to the warp and weft of silk. Instead, they come alive as characters, each carrying its own symbolism, movement and story.
Over the course of the campaign, viewers journey through a single day in this imagined forest, encountering a menagerie of creatures that have long occupied a cherished place in the visual vocabulary of South Indian weaving traditions. A majestic elephant emerges through the honeyed light of late morning, sharing a moment of quiet reverence with Vana Devi. Deer dance through sunlit clearings before vanishing at the call of a bird. Peacocks arrive in a blaze of iridescent colour, drawing the goddess into their graceful movements as the forest glows gold beneath the afternoon sun. As evening falls, a parrot delivers whispers from the woodland, carrying messages that deepen the mythology of the enchanted realm.
